IT&E updates Lifeline application process

IT&E announced today that starting May 8, consumers signing up for a Lifeline plan or renewing their Lifeline plan must first register online with National Verifier at www.checklifeline.org/lifeline. Existing subscribers will not have to do anything until it is time to renew.

Lifeline is a national program under the Federal Communications Commission that makes internet, mobile phone, and home phone services more accessible for eligible families and individuals. Eligibility for Lifeline is based on household income level or participation in federal assistance programs, like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or Medicaid.

The change is in line with federal mandates implemented by the Universal Service Administrative Company, which administers Lifeline and operates National Verifier.

The new steps to apply for Lifeline are:

1. Go to www.checklifeline.org/lifeline and sign up for an account.

2. Upload required documents to prove eligibility. Documents required might include proof of identity,

proof of residential address, household worksheet, proof of emancipated minor, proof of

program/income, or proof of life. IT&E will no longer be accepting these documents.

3. Once eligibility is confirmed by email or mail, visit IT&E to sign up for a Lifeline Mobile or Bundle plan.

Under the Lifeline program, IT&E offers a Mobile Lifeline plan that includes unlimited local talk and text and 3 GB of 4G LTE data for $20.75 a month and a Bundle Lifeline Plan that includes internet and home phone for $62 a month.

IT&E's Lifeline plans help subscribers stay connected and further the FCC's goals to bridge the digital divide.
